Final Bell
Bells are announcers, town criers, and harbingers. The final bell is a ceremonial object that announces presence, intended to be rung and struck to gain attention in a crowded room. The bell is a companion to my Flute.
A bell requires specific wall thicknesses, and gradation changes to generate a clear tone. To achieve these thicknesses and shapes I prepared a CAD file based on a miniturization of church bells produced for rural churches in the Alsace region of France in the late 17th century. The bell was 3D printed and then cast in bronze which gives it an excellent resonant quality. The handle is printed in ABS white plastic using forms that I found reoccurring in my more recent work. Bells are rung to mark the time of day, and special occasions.
