Peace Lily

Flowers often seen at funerals, have lost much of their meaning in an age where folks no longer associate each flower with individual meaning. The calla lily is a fixture of funerals, where traditionally it symbolized purity. I was considering the nature of men wearing flowers and brooches in relation to social concepts of masculinity, when currently emotional expression is something that boys are taught to contain unless it is in the form of violence and aggression. I wanted this work to express a gentler side of a man, both innocent and perhaps mourning. It is intend it as a mans visible expression of mourning in an environment of toxic masculinity.
