Equestrian requiem is a video-Sculpture installation. The ceramic horse topline consists of 100 slip cast dressage stirrups that have been molded and altered to follow the ideal “dressage” Topline of a horse in collected trot. The video is of Willi Schultheis at 67 riding Rio Negro XX, Mr. Schultheis was one of the last great cavalry masters in German dressage, and his riding technique and pedagogy have shaped generations of dressage riders. This work of formal play connects the conception of perfection, movement idiom, and artistic representation through three dimensional layering and fourth dimensional temporal interaction. At various points through the video the ceramic and projection line up, indicating the horse is moving through space while carrying a rider in the “ideal” collected gait.
